In the midst of starvation and genocide in Gaza, FCNL applauds the 27 U.S. senators who took a principled stand against U.S. complicity by voting to block offensive arms sales to the Israeli government. 

Congress has turned its back on the most vulnerable people on earth by approving drastic cuts to foreign assistance which will have devastating impacts on global access to basic health care, education, and on global peace, climate resilience, forced migration and more.

Today, Congress chose to fund cruelty and foster greed at the expense of everyday needs like food for children and low-income families, health care, and energy.    

The profoundly immoral “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (H.R. 1) is going to hurt the most vulnerable in our communities to help the wealthiest and most powerful. A historic grassroots movement opposed this reconciliation bill and blunted some of its immoral provisions.  

The Trump Administration’s bombing of Iran’s nuclear facilities is illegal, unconstitutional, and a violation of international law. The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) calls on Congress to immediately hold President Donald Trump accountable for launching an unauthorized military action against Iran and embroiling the Middle East in a dangerous expansion of war.  

A return to diplomacy is urgently needed to prevent more tragedy. 

The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) condemns the escalation of violence by the Trump administration following the recent military-style Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in heavily Latino neighborhoods in Los Angeles. We urge Congress and the public to stand against these violent actions and to uphold the rule of law, human rights, and our democracy.  

The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) vehemently opposes the recent reinstatement and expansion of the travel ban on several countries in the Global South.

H.R. 1 marks the U.S. federal government’s deliberate rejection of the basic pillars that support strong communities: access to food, healthcare, economic opportunity, and responsible stewardship of our environment. We call on Congress to honor the Light within all of God’s creation and reject this path.   

FCNL is deeply disappointed by President Donald Trump’s decision to once again withdraw from the Paris Agreement.

The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) applauds President Joe Biden’s commutation of sentences for nearly all individuals on federal death row. FCNL has been urging the White House to commute all death penalty sentences to life without parole.

On December 9th, at the 2024 Tribal Nations Summit in Washington, DC, President Joe Biden announced the designation of a new national monument on the site of the Carlisle Indian Industrial School.
