FCNL steadfastly calls for the closure of the American military prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, which enters its 25th year in operation this week. On January 9, we joined with over 100 civil society organizations to demand the permanent closure of the detention facility and redress for those whose human rights have been violated. Each person has inherent dignity and worth.
We find it alarming and egregious that over 700 immigrants to the US have been detained at the Guantánamo naval base, and further demand that the facilities that have been used to commit years of horrendous abuses never be repurposed. The better world we are building maintains no military detention facility at Guantánamo Bay.
