Last week, 58 faith-based organizations and 189 faith leaders sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) expressing shock and outrage about ICE’s decision to eliminate the presumption of release for pregnant women from immigrant detention, except in extraordinary circumstances. ICE also removed oversight and accountability requirements surrounding the treatment of detained pregnant women.

On April 18, 2018, FCNL joined a multi-faith effort to speak out against the harmful changes to SNAP and the farm bill.

FCNL applauds the 44 senators who voted in support of S.J. Res. 54, the Sanders-Lee-Murphy legislation to withdraw U.S. armed forces from the Saudi-led war in Yemen.

Twenty-five faith organizations sent a letter to the House Judiciary Committee today calling for comprehensive criminal justice reform that includes sentencing reform.

A bipartisan trio of Senators—Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Chris Murphy (D-CT)—has introduced legislation to end U.S. military involvement in the Saudi-led war in Yemen that has driven the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. Because this war has never been authorized by Congress, the War Powers Resolution guarantees that this bill will get a vote on the Senate floor within weeks.

FCNL applauds the Welch-Price letter, signed by 102 members of Congress, opposing Trump’s cuts to the UN Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA).

FCNL condemns the Trump administration’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, a provocative move that foments violence in the Middle East and endangers lives in the Middle East and potentially beyond. The Friends Committee on National Legislation urges Congress to denounce this provocation and to refuse to fund Trump’s planned fortress-like embassy in Jerusalem.

On Monday November 13th, the Friends Committee on National Legislation convened local faith leaders in Lynchburg, Virginia to call on Rep. Bob Goodlatte to re-introduce his 2015 Sentencing Reform Act.
