Update

The U.S. drone program is a moral disaster. Supposedly cheaper and more accurate than conventional air attacks, drone strikes are in fact rife with errors, with deadly consequences. From Yemen to Libya to Pakistan, the sky itself has become a source of fear for ordinary people—fear that bears an American insignia.

Today the Senate came up 14 votes short of the 67 needed to override the president’s veto of S.J.Res. 7, a bill to end U.S. military support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen.

If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Lately it seems that Congress, the administration, even the press, is stuck in a loop on immigration. Every day brings a new attack on our immigrant neighbors. Over and over we are told that there is only one way forward: increased detention, deportation, and border militarization.

April 15 marked Tax Day. We often talk about the federal budget as a moral document, which outlines the priorities of our nation. If we want to have an honest conversation about our nation’s spending, we also must discuss taxes, the revenue side of the budget equation.

Climate change is finally on the agenda of the U.S. Congress. With Earth Day around the corner, now is a good time to go beyond recycling to learn about the legislative proposals before our country.

On April 9, the House Foreign Affairs Committee passed H.R. 1004, Prohibiting Unauthorized Military Action in Venezuela.

The bipartisan Global Fragility Act (H.R. 2116) just passed out of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Next, the full House and the Senate will take up this critical peacebuilding legislation.

Susie Fetter was a beloved member of FCNL’s General Committee from 1988-2012, serving on the field, development, and nominating committees. She represented the Field Committee on FCNL’s Executive Committee from 1994-2000. Susie passed away on March 21, 2019.
