Update

On Nov. 24, Pope Francis visited the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to renew his call for the global elimination of nuclear weapons.

In this season of thanksgiving, I am reflecting on how very grateful I am for FCNL’s network of advocates.

Currently in theaters and premiering Nov. 29 on Amazon Prime, “The Report” recounts a five-year effort by Senate staff to investigate the CIA’s use of torture after the Sept. 11 attacks. The resulting report—known as the Torture Report—revealed the staggering extent of the CIA’s disturbing and unethical interrogation program.

The White House submitted its first annual report to Congress as mandated by the Elie Wiesel Genocide and Atrocity Prevention Act. The report details actions taken by the administration to “prevent, mitigate, and respond to mass atrocities.”

This December, people around the country are gathering to honor and remember those who have lost their lives to gun violence. This is a powerful opportunity to show solidarity with advocates nationwide and hold victims in the Light.

On the first episode of the BJC podcast series on Christian nationalism, BJC Executive Director Amanda Tyler interviewed five Christian leaders who are taking a stand against the dangerous ideology, including FCNL Executive Director Diane Randall.

We asked Kerri Colfer, our new congressional advocate in the Native American advocacy program, about her background, her motivations, and how FCNL can improve going forward.

Working as the Congressional Advocate on Native American Policy has been an amazing opportunity. My two years with FCNL allowed me to truly understand the issues we are working on. There are only a handful of fellowships in tribal policy. The fact that this fellowship is hosted by a faith-based advocacy organization makes it truly unique.

Sometimes we are touched by Spirit in ways that are both tender and forceful, and we simply can’t turn away. Often, these spiritual openings come in places and times that we don’t expect.

On Oct. 23, FCNL’s legislative representative for the prevention of violent conflict, Shukria Dellawar, spoke at a congressional briefing titled, “Afghanistan: Giving Women a Seat at the Table.”
