The COVID-19 pandemic and resultant economic crash have created monumental challengesfor every country on Earth. But these crises are not affecting all people or all nations equally.

The president-elect has a real but limited window to reinstate a deal that froze Tehran’s nuclear efforts.

FCNL opposes the administration’s efforts to reimpose UN sanctions on Iran and to undermine and formally kill the Iran nuclear deal.

I have been fortunate to regularly travel to Iran since my childhood. I have seen how living conditions have improved and how social restrictions have gradually been loosened.

As young adults, we only faintly remember what life was like before Sept. 11, if we remember at all. Since the U.S. invaded Afghanistan, we have made it through elementary, middle, and high school. We’ve applied to colleges, finished our degrees, moved away from home, and entered the workforce—and the entire time, the U.S. has been carrying out military actions halfway across the world.

Washington, DC – The Friends Committee on National Legislation welcomes the clear message sent by the House of Representatives last evening that war with Iran has not been authorized and attacks must cease. In a bipartisan vote of 224-194, the House invoked the War Powers Act, directing the president to terminate the use of the military to engage in hostilities in or against Iran. The Senate is expected to take up similar legislation as soon as next week.

On Jan. 9, FCNL’s General Secretary Diane Randall joined a group of faith leaders in calling on Congress to reassert its war powers authority and pass legislation to prohibit war with Iran.

FCNL joined 35 faith organizations and communities in a statement condemning the escalation of violence with Iran and calling on the U.S. to work towards lasting peace.

The Trump administration’s assassination of the military commander of Iran’s Quds Force is a dangerous escalation of the confrontation with Iran that will lead to more bloodshed, further destabilize Iraq, and expand conflict and instability throughout the Middle East.

On Nov. 18, FCNL joined New York advocates in thanking Sen. Chuck Schumer (NY) for his leadership on preventing war with Iran and urging him to ensure the Khanna-Gaetz amendment to the FY2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) remains in the bill through House-Senate conference negotiations.
