Washington - The Friends Committee on National Legislation denounces the action taken by the Department of the Interior to disestablish the Mashpee Wampanoag reservation on March 27.

Washington, DC – The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) welcomed today’s passage of both Savanna’s Act and the Not Invisible Act of 2019 by the House Judiciary Committee.

Washington, DC – More than 60 national and international groups urged the administration, Congressional leadership, and the American public today to reject once and for all the worldwide production and use of anti-personnel landmines and join the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty.

Washington, DC – The Trump administration is expected to formally announce plans today to expand the 2017 travel ban, commonly known as the Muslim ban. The extension includes Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar (Burma), Nigeria, Sudan, and Tanzania. The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) has consistently opposed any religious-based tests or barriers for admission to the United States.

Washington, DC – The Friends Committee on National Legislation welcomes the clear message sent by the House of Representatives last evening that war with Iran has not been authorized and attacks must cease. In a bipartisan vote of 224-194, the House invoked the War Powers Act, directing the president to terminate the use of the military to engage in hostilities in or against Iran. The Senate is expected to take up similar legislation as soon as next week.

Washington, DC – The Friends Committee on National Legislation praised the inclusion of the Global Fragility Act of 2019, unanimously passed by the House earlier this year, in the bipartisan federal funding package for fiscal 2020. The funding package deal is expected to be passed by Congress and signed into law shortly.

Washington, DC – More than 50 Christian leaders with the Circle of Protection asked all of the presidential candidates, Republican and Democratic, to send a short video explaining what they “would do as president to offer help and opportunity to poor and hungry people in the United States and around the world.”

Washington, DC – The Friends Committee on National Legislation praised today’s passage of the Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2019 (H.R. 4) in the House of Representatives. The bill will restore the protections of 1965’s Voting Rights Act by developing a process to determine which states must seek prior clearance for election law changes with the Justice Department.

Washington, DC – As leaders of faith-based organizations, we are gravely concerned by the Trump Administration’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement.
