The world is facing increasing shocks from a rapidly changing climate. These impacts fall hardest on countries in the Global South, where rising seas, prolonged droughts, devastating floods, and biodiversity loss are compounding existing global challenges.

The current fiscal year 2026 federal government shutdown threatens to harm millions of people, weaken bipartisan policymaking, and increase the risk of executive overreach at a critical point of inflection for the United States.

With the ceasefire and hostage release negotiations stalled and Israel blocking humanitarian aid into Gaza, there is no time to lose. Congress must pass the Block the Bombs Act (H.R. 3565) and use all forms of U.S. leverage to bring about a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and across the region.

Congress must urge the administration to resume all foreign assistance programs and fully fund aid, including migration accounts, in the FY26 State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs bill.

The U.S. is edging dangerously close to another unauthorized war in the Middle East. Recent escalations between Israel and Iran—sparked by Israel’s unprovoked airstrikes in June—have brought the region to the brink of a full-blown regional war. 

The clean energy tax credits passed under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) (P.L. 117-169) are essential for supporting this transition and meeting the power requirements of a growing economy, including a U.S. manufacturing revival, building and transportation electrification, AI technology, and next-generation data centers.

Oppose cutting vital social safety net programs to pay for indiscriminate immigration policies. 

Peacebuilding and conflict prevention programs reduce violent conflict and human suffering while saving taxpayer dollars. Yet, U.S. support for this work has been persistently underfunded.

Congress is poised to move big legislation that could have a dramatic impact on millions of lives, taking health care and nutrition assistance away from families across the country while giving big tax cuts for wealthy individuals and corporations.

As Congress negotiates the budget resolution for Fiscal Year 2026 and beyond, President Trump and some in Congress are proposing significant cuts to non-defense spending while further inflating the already bloated Pentagon budget.
