Congress may soon consider legislation that could provide more funding to expand U.S. military operations against Iran. This unauthorized war is already costing American taxpayers more than $1 billion per day. Now is the moment for Congress to use its power of the purse to stop escalation, not provide the resources to sustain it.
No Funding for War with Iran
Members must block funding for the war with Iran by opposing every legislative vehicle that seeks to appropriate or authorize these funds. These include the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and any future budget reconciliation bill, supplemental spending bill or other legislation that would provide resources for continued U.S. military operations against Iran. The conflict is escalating rapidly, threatening civilians and U.S. personnel alike. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints, endangers global energy markets and international stability, with risks increasing by the day.
Why Congress Must Block Funding for War with Iran
» Escalation Is Already Costing Civilian Lives: Thousands of civilians across the Middle East have already died as the conflict escalates, and the toll is rising by the day. Expanding U.S. military operations risks further mass casualties, displacement, and deepening human suffering.
» Congress Must Reclaim Its Constitutional Authority: President Trump never sought or received authorization from Congress, nor has he made a compelling case to the American people for a costly war of choice. The Constitution gives Congress, not the president, the power to declare war. Congress has an obligation to use its power of the purse to end this war, not fund it further.
» War with Iran Is Harming U.S. Security and the Global Economy: A prolonged war endangers U.S. troops, fuels regional instability, empowers hardliners, and disrupts global energy markets. With the Strait of Hormuz already affected, the risk of energy shocks and rising costs for American families is growing.
» Diplomacy Must Be the Path Forward: Decades of war in Afghanistan, Iraq, and across the Middle East and North Africa demonstrate the enormous human and financial costs of military escalation and regime change wars. More funding for the Iran war would restore the capacity to wage the very unauthorized war of choice Congress should be working to end, and would do nothing to incentivize regional diplomacy or create a pathway out of this conflict. Diplomacy and sustained international engagement remain the only viable path to de-escalation and lasting regional stability. Congress should prioritize an immediate and permanent ceasefire and reject billions in funding for more unlawful and immoral war.
