FCNL joined 26 other faith communities in sending a comment to the Environmental Protection Agency calling for the addition of all per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) to the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI). PFAS are chemicals that accumulate in the human body and have harmful environmental impacts. Strengthening regulatory standards and procedures surrounding these harmful chemicals furthers FCNL’s mission of seeking an earth restored.
On August 9, FCNL and more than 40 other organizations in the Alliance for Peacebuilding sent a letter to House appropriators, urging them to protect funding for foreign assistance. The administration has attempted to freeze $4 billion of these congressionally-approved funds. This would impact the ability of the U.S. to prevent and manage conflict abroad.

When I was 6 years old, my mother, three siblings, and I fled Iran
during the Iran-Iraq war, seeking refuge in America. We had no way of

The prayer camps at Standing Rock are places for ceremony, learning, and respect. Relations with the federal government seem to be marked by acknowledgment of history and openness to mutually acceptable solutions. But relations with the police – local, state, and private security – are increasingly marked by aggression.
Today is the fifth anniversary of the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United vs. FEC; a decision that allowed corporations to spend money to influence elections the same way that individual people can. In the last five years, corporations, SuperPACs, and wealthy individuals have stepped up campaign contributions and further solidified the role of big money in politics. FCNL continues our mission to reduce the role of big money in government, which all too often drowns out the voices of American citizens.
Dr. King told us that peace must not only be seen as a ‘distant goal,’ but also ‘a means by which we arrive at that goal.’ This week the possibilities for what peace can accomplish as both a goal AND a means to that goal is on full display in U.S.-Iranian relations.
