On July 24, 54 organizations from across the political spectrum sent a letter to each member of the House of Representatives commending the House for including in the annual defense spending bill a measure to repeal the 2001 Authorization of Use of Military Force (AUMF) .

The Edward F. Snyder Award for National Legislative Leadership in Advancing Disarmament and Building Peace is presented annually to an outstanding member of Congress who has displayed leadership in advancing legislative priorities consistent with those advocated by the Friends Committee on National Legislation.
The letter was signed by over 70 national and international organizations, including Amnesty International USA, Norwegian Refugee Council, Human Rights Watch, Oxfam America, Win Without War, National Council of Churches, Just Foreign Policy, Demand Progress, Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, IfNotNow, Al Haq, and Eyewitness Palestine.
The idea that it is necessary to maintain residual forces in Afghanistan to conduct counterterrorism operations is based on the flawed premise that “terrorism” must be fought and can be defeated militarily.
FCNL’s lobbyist on human rights and civil liberties, Yasmine Taeb, received the 2016 Diversity Award for Leadership in the Legal Profession at Penn State Law’s 4th Annual Diversity Banquet. The banquet honors members of the law school community who have contributed to the development of the legal profession.
