This legislative ask is designed to be shared with your members of Congress and their staff.

Congress may soon consider a supplemental funding bill that could provide $200 billion or more to expand U.S. military operations against Iran. These unauthorized strikes are already costing American taxpayers more than $1 billion per day. Lawmakers must reject this request to fund an illegal war that has cost innocent lives and is threatening global stability.

No Funding for War with Iran

The Trump administration’s unlawful military strikes against Iran are already taking a devastating human toll. Thousands of people in Iran and across the Middle East have been killed, injured, and displaced. In one horrific attack, a girls’ school in Minab was struck by a U.S. missile, which killed at least 170 students and faculty. This tragedy is a stark reminder that the innocent always pay the highest price in war.

The conflict is escalating rapidly, threatening civilians and U.S. personnel alike. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints, endangers global energy markets and international stability, with risks increasing by the day.

At a time when Congress is debating cuts to health care, food assistance, and other vital programs, funding a costly and unauthorized war undermines both American values and fiscal responsibility. Diplomacy is the only viable path to de-escalation. Congress must reassert its constitutional authority over decisions of war and peace—and block funding for more war.

Why Congress Must Block Funding for War with Iran

Escalation Is Already Costing Civilian Lives: Thousands of civilians across the Middle East have already died as the conflict escalates, and the toll is rising by the day. Expanding military operations risks further mass casualties, displacement, and deepening human suffering.

Congress Must Reclaim Its Constitutional Authority: President Trump never received authorization from Congress, nor has he made a compelling case to the American people for a costly war of choice. The Constitution gives Congress, not the president, the power to declare war. Funding military operations without explicit congressional authorization undermines this core constitutional principle.

War with Iran Is Harming U.S. Security and the Global Economy: A prolonged war endangers U.S. troops, fuels regional instability, empowers hardliners, and disrupts global energy markets. With the Strait of Hormuz already affected, the risk of energy shocks and rising costs for American families is growing.

Diplomacy Must Be the Path Forward: Decades of war in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya demonstrate the enormous human and financial costs of military escalation and regime change wars. Diplomacy and sustained international engagement remain the only viable path to de-escalation and lasting regional stability. Congress should prioritize an immediate and permanent ceasefire, and reject billions in funding for more unlawful and immoral war.
