Maria Mitri started as the Migration and Policy Administrative Associate in 2025. She lobbies for a more just and humane immigration system that honors the inherent dignity of all human beings. Engaging legislators from both sides of the aisle on Capitol Hill, she works in collaboration with other faith-based groups to advance a shared vision of the world we seek. Specifically, she leads the Interfaith Immigration Coalition’s Legislative Affairs Working Group.

Maria received her BA in International Studies from American University in Washington, DC, along with a Certificate in Spanish Translation. Before joining FCNL, she was the Advocacy and Policy Coordinator at Global Refuge and interned at the Department of State’s Office of Migration Affairs. In her free time, Maria likes to cook, explore Rock Creek Park, and catch up on reading. Her work is driven by her own experience as the child of immigrants and a first-generation American and she is committed to uplifting the voices and experiences of marginalized migrants in the halls of power.
