Join FCNL Executive Secretary Diane Randall on Sunday, November 18 at We Hold These Truths: Quakers in America – a discussion of Mat Smart’s play The Agitators.
The play examines the 45-year friendship and occasional rivalry between two American icons: Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass. This post-show discussion, which is free and open to the public, will explore Quaker beliefs, their role in the abolitionist movement, and modern advocacy for civil rights. Diane will be in conversation with Sharon Jones, from the Friends of Frederick Douglass House; Steve Chase, a member of Friends Meeting of Washington and the Manager of Academic Initiatives at the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict; and Rebecca Cohen, the Manager of Institutional Giving at Mosaic Theater.
Diane Randall brings to this dialogue the perspective of FCNL’s historical and present-day witness for equity through Quaker advocacy for racial, economic, and criminal justice; compassionate immigration policy; and right relationships with Native American peoples that honor the treaties.
We Hold These Truths: Quakers in America will take place directly at around 5:15 PM after the 3 pm showing of The Agitators on November 18.
You can purchase tickets to The Agitators, which is showing at Mosaic Theater until November 25, online here. Address: Atlas Performing Arts Center, 1333 H St. NE, Washington, DC 20002.
