“We are at another moment when advocacy and political involvement are essential to the future of our nation. Our democratic system only works when we actively participate in the process. All of us.” - George Takei
When World War II broke out 75 years ago, more than 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry were stripped of their rights and imprisoned.
George Takei and his family were among those interned in two of ten barbwire-enclosed internment camps.
The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) were among the few groups that publicly supported and helped them. Today, Quakers through the Friends Committee on National Legislation continue to advocate for peace, social justice, and rebuilding our democracy.
George says: “I hope that you will consider joining the Quaker lobby in Washington, the Friends Committee on National legislation …FCNL will help you find your voice, they will help you to be an effective advocate for justice as an essential part of the movement to reclaim our democratic system. Get involved.”
