    Washington, DC – The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) praised today’s House passage of the Climate Action Now Act (H.R.9). Passed 231-190, the legislation prevents any funding for removing the United States from the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement. It also requires the administration to develop plans to meet its emissions reductions goals under the agreement. The bill passed with unanimous Democratic support and included Republican votes.

    Washington, DC – The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) expressed concern today that the House of Representatives’ emergency spending package, currently projected at $4.5 billion, could be used to enhance enforcement and detention rather than humanitarian assistance. Recent reports from border detention facilities have documented cases of children without diapers, soap, medical supplies, and access to showers. In several cases, it was up to older children to take care of the younger children, all without proper adult supervision.

The bill mandates the development of a long-term, government-wide strategy to address fragility and violence in select countries. The bill strengthens American capacity to address the root causes of violence, which are taking an increasingly harsh economic and human toll.
