Monica was FCNL’s Program Assistant for Nuclear Disarmament and Pentagon Spending for 2019-2020. Alongside constituents and coalition partners, she worked with Congress to promote bipartisan support for nuclear arms control and cutbacks in the level of defense spending. In addition to her lobbying tasks, she was responsible for maintaining the FCNL Nuclear Calendar.
Monica graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in political science and peace studies, and a certificate in international security studies. Her honors thesis explored the influence of both external threats and domestic politics on the historical development of the U.S. nuclear weapons program. She was awarded the 2019 Yarrow Award in Peace Studies, given annually to a graduating student who demonstrates academic excellence and a commitment to peace and justice. Monica spent a semester abroad in Jerusalem and has studied Modern Standard Arabic.
While at Notre Dame, she worked as a research and office assistant at the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies and served as the 2019 co-chair of the annual Notre Dame Student Peace Conference. She has also previously interned at the Arms Control Association and in the district office of Sen. Bob Corker (TN). She is originally from Knoxville, TN.
