Joey Hartmann-Dow is an artist and activist currently serving as FCNL’s Friend in Washington for Spring 2018. Her project during her residency is creating a series of comic books about citizen lobbying, aiming to empower anyone, no matter what your background, to engage with your representatives to affect change through policy.

Joey is a member of Lehigh Valley Friends Meeting in Bethlehem, PA, where she grew up, but tends to travel throughout the year, and has bases in Philadelphia, PA, New Orleans, LA, and Rochester, NY. She studied Studio Art and Environmental Justice at the University of Rochester, graduating in 2012, and has since established her art business (Us & We Art). She was an organizer in FCNL’s first class of the Advocacy Corps in 2015, and is a member of the General Committee.

As an artist, Joey strives to make work about human relationship to the world around us, and big questions about vulnerability, equality, and community.
