U.S. elections are the bedrock of American democracy. A large part of what makes them so secure is their decentralization and the large numbers of nonpartisan, apolitical state officials and volunteers. However, with a call for a mid-decade redistricting by President Trump, Department of Justice officials seizing voter rolls, and the President calling the National Guard to police city streets the chief executive is all too willing to trample on norms and break laws for partisan gain and to amass power.
