Press Release Quaker Lobby Applauds House Vote Denouncing “National Emergency” 

Washington, DC – The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) applauded the passage of the House of Representatives resolution to overturn the national emergency declaration issued by President Donald Trump earlier this month. FCNL urges the Senate to approve a similar resolution as soon as possible.

Letter FCNL Urges House Judiciary Committee to End Family Detention and Separation 

On Tuesday, February 26, prior to the House Judiciary Committee's hearing on "Oversight of the Trump Administration’s Family Separation Policy," FCNL submitted a statement urging an end to the devastating practice of family detention and the use of adult immigrant detention that results in family separation.

Legislative Ask The real crisis at the border is deportation, detention, and walls.  

There is a crisis at the U.S. border: a moral crisis of immigrant children separated from their parents as they seek safety. There is a crisis of walls through communities and of refugee families detained in camps on military bases. There is a humanitarian crisis, created by military troops deployed in border communities and an illegal ban on certain asylum seekers.

Update Immigration Enforcement Spending at Historic High in FY19 Omnibus 

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) need meaningful oversight and reduced spending authority.

FCNL remains committed to seeking reduced spending and emphasis on detention and border militarization. We urge members of Congress not to use current historic levels of enforcement spending as the starting baseline for upcoming negotiations.

Update Shutdown Avoided. Progress Toward Peace. 

This was an extraordinary week. We witnessed exciting movement on several issues we care about—and avoided another government shutdown. The week then concluded with President Donald Trump’s worrisome declaration of a national emergency to build his expanded border wall.

Letter 41 Faith Leaders: A Border Wall is Immoral 

Today, President Trump announced a national emergency declaration in order to build the border wall. FCNL Executive Secretary Diane Randall joined 40 other faith leaders in a statement condemning the border wall as immoral.

Press Release Quaker Lobby Welcomes Budget Deal; Deplores National Emergency Declaration 

Washington, DC – The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) today welcomed the bipartisan budget agreement negotiated by Congress to keep the federal government funded through the rest of the fiscal year. However, FCNL deplores the declaration of a national emergency at the southern border.

Update Shutdown Watch: Senate Should Pass Remaining Bills 

Rein in ICE Overspending on Detention

Congress has until Friday to pass the remaining spending bills and avert another government shutdown. A bipartisan bicameral group of lawmakers were tasked with coming up with a deal to fund the Department of Homeland Security. They are right up against the deadline for coming up with an agreement.
