Washington, DC – As leaders of faith-based organizations, we are gravely concerned by the Trump Administration’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement.
On July 16, FCNL and 144 other organizations sent a letter to Representatives Pete Sessions (TX-32) and James McGovern (MA- 2), respectively the Chairman and Ranking Member on the House Rules Committee. This letter urges them to support amendments in the appropriations bill would that protect the Johnson Amendment.
FCNL submitted the following statement to the Committee on the Judiciary’s Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship and Committee on Foreign Affairs’ Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations ahead of their joint hearing on President Trump’s Muslim ban. This is the first congressional oversight hearing on this ban since the first one was issued in January 2017.
On the heels of the Israeli election and with the U.S. Administration preparing to release the political component of its peace plan for Israel/Palestine, 22 Christian leaders, including FCNL Executive Secretary Diane Randall, wrote to President Trump outlining their recommendations for U.S. policies that would help bring about a just and lasting end to the conflict in Israel-Palestine.
House and Senate negotiators are currently working on a final policy bill that will direct the Pentagon’s efforts over the next year. On Sept. 10, FCNL joined a diverse group of organizations from across the ideological spectrum in sending a letter to House and Senate leaders of the Armed Services Committees. Together they urged them to preserve the Lee amendment to repeal of the 2002 Iraq Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) in the final version of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020 (NDAA).
On March 13, a diverse group of 42 organizations from across the political spectrum sent a letter to Chairman Elliot Engel (NY-16) and Ranking Member Michael McCaul (TX-10) of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, urging them to bring up Rep. Barbara Lee’s (CA-13) legislation to repeal the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force for prompt consideration in Committee.
Twenty-eight national and international organizations urge robust funding for the international affairs budget including programs that prevent violent conflict, mitigate atrocities and protect civilians.
More than 120 nations at the United Nations have adopted a treaty banning nuclear weapons. This is a tremendous step toward a world free of nuclear weapons, and we join with other faith communities in this letter applauding the treaty.
