Tonya Childers is the Sr. Director of Human Resources. She leads FCNL’s HR and people operations, developing strategies and solutions that support the human resources function including talent management and recruiting, HR compliance and policies, employee relations, benefits and compensation administration, organizational development and the overall employee experience. She partners with, coaches, and advises leadership, managers and staff with a lens of equity and inclusion throughout the employee life cycle.
Tonya has spent nearly 20 years developing relationships, systems and processes that work for nonprofit organizations. Her passion lies in mission-driven work, creating structures and solving complex problems that allow organizations and their people to thrive. Her experience spans the full spectrum of human resources functions, though she has a particular zeal for employee relations, HR systems and HR compliance. Tonya initially joined the FCNL staff in 2021, during which time she established and built out FCNL’s HR function. After transitioning away to spend a few years leading HR for a racial justice nonprofit, she returned to FCNL in March 2024.
Tonya holds a Master of Science degree in Management and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She has served on the executive board, including as president, of her local chapter of a service-based organization whose aim is to uplift and empower women in the community. In her free time, Tonya enjoys live music and shows, writing short stories and poems, and traveling.
