Sergio Mata is a sophomore at Houghton College in Houghton, New York. He was born and raised in Northern New Mexico. He has pursued many opportunities to grow as a leader.

Sergio is an active member of his community; he participates in both extracurricular activities at school and in his hometown. These activities have been transformative and have inspired him to pursue a life of leadership. During his freshmen year, he served as freshmen class President and currently serves as Executive Officer of Student Life. The programs he currently participates in include Global Christian Fellowship, One Mission Society, Student Government Association at Houghton College and ENLACE (ENgaging Latino Communities for Education). He has also advocated in the New Mexico Legislature for computer science education, Science Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), and education. Immigration has been an issue that has personally affected Sergio, as both his parents were immigrants. Sergio is excited about being able to collaborate with FCNL on the immigration reform.
