I wasn’t born into a Quaker family, but I transferred to a Friends school in second grade. I started attending Friends camp and Meeting more and more until I started feeling integrated into the community. I love being Quaker!

I’m excited to learn how to lobby and learn the best ways to make change. It’s easy to sit around with strong beliefs, but I wanted to make that first big jump coming to D.C. to do something. I’m really nervous, but why not give it a shot? I feel pretty uneducated about issues so I worry about sounding confident when I’m not.

I was raised Quaker and love being Quaker and helping causes that I want to further. Right now I think I want to work in politics or with an NGO. I’m hoping to learn more about how Congress works and how laws are made so that I can make more change. Quakers have learned that lobbying is the best way to make change.

Nobody knows what Quakers are—oh, it’s the oatmeal right?. I have the opportunity to educate people about Quaker values. And whether you’re Quaker or of a different religion, Quaker values are applicable to everybody.

I’m excited to bring back what I’ve learned here to Minnesota and use what I’ve learned to lobby on other issues.
