Jose Angel Mejia began university at the CUNY College of Staten Island in the Spring of 2013 as an undocumented student. Jose was born in Mexico City and, at the age of two, brought to the United States by his family.
He is active in his community, including volunteering at food pantries, clothing drives, cleaning up local streets, educating and advocating for the DREAM Act (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors), and DACA/DAPA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals/ Parenthood Arrivals). Jose is also involved in his church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, in Staten Island, New York. He is entering his junior year and will be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Legal Studies. Because of his achievements, Jose was honored as a 2015 and 2016 CUNY Becas Scholarship recipient. Jose is excited to begin mobilizing his community to develop relationships with members of Congress and encourage them to act on immigration reform.
