Americans for Peace Now, Arms Control Association, Council for a Livable World, Foreign Policy for America, Friends Committee on National Legislation, Indivisible, J Street, MoveOn, NIAC Action, Ploughshares Fund, VoteVets and Win Without War issued the following statement:
FCNL applauds the 44 senators who voted in support of S.J. Res. 54, the Sanders-Lee-Murphy legislation to withdraw U.S. armed forces from the Saudi-led war in Yemen.
The president’s firing of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson managed to
add insult to the year of injury that has been visited on the State
Department and U.S. foreign policy.
It took 20 stories before I had the courage to tell my story of hunger, of feeding my child as a single mother. It was the first time in 22 years that I told my story.
Even as our hearts are broken with the constant attacks on our immigrant and refugee neighbors, we are reminded that we are an Advent people - a people of hope.
Last October, FCNL opened the Quaker Welcome Center (QWC) in an adjoining townhouse. Completely renovated as a green building, the center is a cozy event space for dialogue and the promotion of peace, justice, and environmental sustainability. It is a place where we train advocates and offer a time for silent reflection.
FCNL joins 50 other organizations in urging members of Congress to speak out in support of rejoining the Iran nuclear deal. With tensions rising between the United States and Iran, it is more important than ever for members of Congress to adhere to the principles outlined below to guard against another devastating war in the Middle East.
A bipartisan trio of Senators—Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Chris Murphy (D-CT)—has introduced legislation to end U.S. military involvement in the Saudi-led war in Yemen that has driven the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. Because this war has never been authorized by Congress, the War Powers Resolution guarantees that this bill will get a vote on the Senate floor within weeks.
FCNL condemns the Trump administration’s decertification on the Iran deal and the Cotton-Corker legislation that risks sabotaging this historic agreement. The Quaker lobby, which has been a leading voice advocating for diplomacy with Iran in Washington, calls on Congress to reject Trump’s dangerous bid to extort our negotiating partners to submit to ultimatums on the deal which risk its collapse and putting the United States on a path towards full-fledged war with Iran.
The Friends Committee on National Legislation is disappointed that the U.S. Supreme Court decided to allow part of President Trump’s travel ban to go into effect while it considers the broader Executive Order.
War is Not the Answer. Love Thy Neighbor, No Exceptions.
