  1. Plan out your welcome strategy as a team. We encourage all Advocacy Teams to take a look at the New Members Worksheet periodically. Take time during a monthly meeting to fill this out together so you have a plan before new members arrive.

  2. Notify Advocacy Teams Staff: When a new member joins your team, please fill out this form to let Advocacy Teams staff know that you have a new member. This ensures that your new member will receive National Call invitations and the newsletter each month.

  3. Invite the new member to an Intro to Advocacy training. Intro to Advocacy trainings are held monthly. These one-hour Zoom calls inform new advocates about FCNL’s values and history as well as teach introductory advocacy skills. Encourage new members to register for a training at www.fcnl.org/introtoadvocacy.

  4. Add your new member to your local group on Mobilize. The group manager(s) for your Advocacy Team can do this by following the instructions below. If your team does not have a local group on Mobilize, please add them to your state group.

  5. Send a welcome email: It’s very important that new members receive a warm, upbeat, informative, and enthusiastic email from you as soon as they join the team. Download a sample email you can edit and send out. This email contains links to the Training Workbook and the Advocacy Teams Toolkit as well as space for you to invite the new member to your next team meeting or action.
