Your Advocacy is Working! Senate Passes Iran War powers with Bipartisan Support

By Hassan El-Tayyab, February 14, 2020

Exciting news. Yesterday, the Senate passed S.J. Res. 68, Sen. Tim Kaine’s Iran War Powers Resolution.

Eight Republican senators crossed the aisle, joining their Democratic colleagues to make clear that Congress and the American people do not support an unauthorized war with Iran. I don’t have to tell you what a big deal this is.

Passage of this resolution signals to the president that even within his own party there is little appetite for another endless war in the Middle East. It also has a calming effect on Iran, reducing the risk of miscalculations and misunderstandings that could accidentally escalate into armed conflict.

Thank you for your tireless advocacy.

Now the vote goes back to the House for final approval. Let’s keep up the pressure on Congress to return to diplomacy, reassert its war authority, and prevent conflict with Iran.

Act now: Respond to your senators and urge your representative to support the Iran War Powers Resolution.
