What Does "Lobbyist" Mean to You?

Who do you imagine when you hear about lobbyists? While there are plenty of lobbyists motivated by huge profits, FCNL has a different view of lobbying.

Who do you imagine when you hear about lobbyists? While there are plenty of lobbyists motivated by huge profits, FCNL has a different view of lobbying.

The lobbyists who work and volunteer with FCNL are people who are advocating for you, your values, and the public interest.

Recently, we asked FCNL staff members and interns what they enjoyed about working at FCNL. Our former program assistant for communications, Emmett Witkovsky-Eldred, said this:

“The first time I told someone I worked with lobbyists, she rolled her eyes. Her knowing smile said ‘you’re one of those people.’ I wanted to crumple up that label and throw it in the garbage.

But our lobbyists don’t fit the stereotype. Not the ones we employ, and not the volunteer lobbyists we empower—the undocumented girl, the Yemeni thought-leader, the Quaker constituent, the college student. FCNL heals broken things: Lobbyists can be people who care. Constituents can have power. Congress can work. Our society can be just. Our nation can be peaceful. Our Earth can be restored. I love to tell that story.”

Can you help support FCNL’s work today as we advocate for the values and policies that you hold dear? Your support makes it possible to sustain the work that Emmett so beautifully describes.
