We Have to Keep Going

By Amelia Kegan, July 25, 2017

The Senate just passed the motion to proceed to repeal the Affordable Care Act and cut hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicaid.

This is a disappointing vote, but it's not the end -- not by a long shot. We have to keep going. The next 36 hours are critical.

The Senate will now debate and vote on amendments before voting on final passage. There could be hundreds of amendments. But the facts of the underlying bill have not changed. At the end of the day, the legislation will lead to huge increases in the number people losing health coverage, losing Medicaid coverage, and spikes in premiums. No amendments will fix this bill.

This is a disappointing vote, but it's not the end -- not by a long shot.

We can't let up now. Whether or not you called this morning, your senators need to hear from you now.

Click here to get phone numbers for your senators and make your calls. It’s time for Congress to move on and work in a bipartisan fashion to address the real problems in our health care system, ensuring everyone can access affordable, quality health care.

Our faith calls us to pursue a world where everyone can live with dignity and fulfill their potential. Access to affordable, quality health care is essential to that end. These decisions are moral decisions, and the Senate should not rush through legislation that impacts a fifth of our country’s economy and the lives of millions of people.
