Update: House Leadership May Block Vote on Saudi-Led War in Yemen but Your Rep Can Help
UPDATE (10/9/17): We're hearing House leadership is trying to block this essential vote on the US-backed war in Yemen. Please call your Rep now (1-855-68 NO WAR) to urge him/her to cosponsor H. Con. Res. 81 and pressure the House to allow a vote on unauthorized US military involvement in the Saudi-led war in Yemen. A bipartisan group—Reps. Khanna (CA), Massie (KY), Pocan (WI) and Jones (NC)—has introduced legislation (H. Con. Res. 81) to withdraw all U.S. military support from the Saudi-led war in Yemen.
By refueling Saudi and UAE bombers and providing the Saudi-led coalition with weapons, intelligence, and logistical support, the U.S. is complicit in violations of international law and in creating the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. This devastating war has pushed Yemen to the brink of mass starvation and into the worst cholera outbreak in recorded world history.
Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell, was on the Hill with me today, meeting with members of Congress and their staff on this legislation. We keep hearing from offices that they aren’t hearing enough from their constituents about this. I’m asking you to help change that by writing Rep. DeFazio and spread the word to urge others to write as well.
Thanks for all you do for a more peaceful and just world,
Legislative Director for Middle East Policy
P.S. Check out this Huffington Post report on House leadership's effort to block this essential vote. Increasing the number of cosponsors on H. Con. Res. 81 is more important than ever to push back against the House leadership's anti-democratic efforts to squelch a robust debate and vote on U.S. participation in the Saudi-led war in Yemen.
