Join Friends as we stoke our spiritual fires and stretch ourselves through communal worship, learning, and fellowship. Together we will open ourselves to Christ's presence and power and allow the Spirit to work within us as we seek God's power for transformative action.
Stoking the Fire is a yearly program offered by the FUM North American Ministries Committee. It’s timed to coincide with Pentecost Sunday in the Christian calendar, held in locations across North America, and is intended as an annual retreat for individuals who are “on fire” with the Holy Spirit and are seeking deeper faith and bolder witness.
This year’s Stoking the Fire will be held May 17th - 20th at the Stony Point Center in Stony Point, NY, a place which describes itself as offering “simple accommodations, sustainable values and a spirit of hospitality.”
The keynote speaker for the 2018 Stoking the Fire will be Amelia Kegan, Legislative Director for Domestic Policy at Friends Committee on National Legislation. In addition to being a well-qualified advocate for Christian social justice, Amelia is also a passionate, charismatic, even fiery, preacher. Her biblically-centered messages ring out with exhortation for the prophetic call of the gospel in our world today. She is invariably named as a high point of any event where she speaks, and the Stoking the Fire planning committee is particularly excited to be offering Amelia an opportunity to deepen her biblical and spiritual message for Friends over the course of an extended weekend.
