In a week when President Trump, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and national security adviser John Bolton have all made bellicose threats against Iran, it is particularly welcome news that Sen. Tom Udall (NM) has introduced a bill to stop Trump’s march to war with Iran.

The “Prevention of Unconstitutional War with Iran Act of 2018” (S. 3517) would ban funding for a U.S. military attack against Iran without authorization from Congress. This is an important initiative re-asserting Congress’ constitutionally-designated authority to determine if and when the United States goes to war. As national security experts have warned, a U.S. military strike against Iran would have catastrophic consequences.

Urge your senators to co-sponsor Sen. Udall’s “Prevention of Unconstitutional War with Iran Act” (S.3157) and help stop war with Iran.

The legislation is co-sponsored by the Senators listed below:

  • Author: Sen. Tom Udall (D-NM)
  • Sen. Leahy, Patrick J. [D-VT]*
  • Sen. Feinstein, Dianne [D-CA]
  • Sen. Durbin, Richard J. [D-IL]
  • Sen. Sanders, Bernard [I-VT]
  • Sen. Merkley, Jeff [D-OR]
  • Sen. Heinrich, Martin [D-NM]
  • Sen. Murphy, Christopher [D-CT]
  • Sen. Paul, Rand [R-KY]
