New Health Care "Compromise" Protects Insurance Companies, Not Patients

By Amelia Kegan, April 4, 2017

Don't let Congress sneak through an even worse health care bill. Vice President Mike Pence and Freedom Caucus members are working on a "compromise" health care bill. Some are hoping it could come to a vote as soon as this week.

This proposal is being called a compromise. But the compromise isn't between Republican and Democratic principles for health care reform. It's a compromise with a group of representatives who want the government to stay out of health care altogether. The outlines of the compromise are devastating; as the New York Times reported today, a cancer patient could pay an exorbitant premium for a plan that doesn't even cover chemotherapy.

Whether or not the plan comes to the floor, your representative needs to hear that states shouldn't have the option to roll back essential patient protections. We have to stop the plan now, before it gains any momentum.

We can't let this plan get off the ground. A phone call today is the best way to make sure your opinion is counted right now -- before the plan has a chance to advance to the House floor.

Act now: Contact your representative.
