FCNL welcomes a Hawaii federal judge’s decision to block implementation of President Trump’s travel ban that primarily affects Muslim-majority countries.

The third executive order was issued after the expiration of the administration’s previous travel ban and was set to go into effect on October 18, 2017.

Yasmine Taeb, FCNL’s lobbyist on human rights and civil liberties, made the following statement:

“From the beginning, the president’s Muslim ban has grossly violated our core beliefs and has run counter to American values. The latest version is no different, and we are heartened by today’s decision to block implementation of this discriminatory travel ban.

“This travel ban clearly infringes upon the bedrock principle of religious freedom, singling out Muslims to be excluded and feared. It also denies America’s identity as a welcoming nation of immigrants. While immigrants from each of the nations targeted by the travel ban have already woven themselves into the fabric of American life, this ban cruelly denies new individuals that same opportunity.”
