An Early Christmas Gift for Millionaires and Corporations

By Amelia Kegan, December 20, 2017

Congress just passed a dangerous and regressive tax bill into law. This bill will slash taxes for corporations and the wealthy while increasing the budget deficit by more than $1.5 trillion. Now, congressional leaders have already set their sights on cutting programs that serve people in need to pay for their deficit-raising bill.

We lost this vote, but we can’t stop advocating for an economy that serves everyone, not just the rich the powerful. Tell Congress: no cuts to Medicaid, SNAP (formerly food stamps), or Social Security disability benefits to pay for regressive tax cuts.

This next round is coming fast, but I believe we can win.

In 2017, Congress tried to transform Medicaid as we know it three times. But each time, millions of people from around the United States rose up and spoke out. By flooding Congress with calls, emails, and in-person lobby visits, sharing their personal stories, we stopped immoral legislation from becoming law.

We can and will do that again in 2018, but it’ll take committed and vocal advocacy to make it happen. Contact Congress now and tell them about your fierce opposition to this tax bill and that it is unacceptable to pay for this bill by cutting programs serving Americans in need.
