A More Peaceful Budget
Deadline: Friday. That's when the government will shut down, unless Congress reaches a deal on federal spending. Negotiations are tense and ongoing, but the message your members of Congress needs to hear is simple: Don't pour more money into our country's militarized approach to foreign and domestic policies.
A military-first foreign policy and enforcement-only immigration policy aren’t effective or moral ways to address the problems of our complex, interconnected world. Yet White House and congressional leaders are putting intense pressure on Congress to entrench these failed approaches by increasing an already excessive Pentagon budget and allocating billions for a border wall and other militarized strategies to punish immigrants.
The budget is a moral document. It shows our priorities as a nation in black and white. Right now, the U.S. is prioritizing bombs, walls, detention, and deportation over investments in our communities. We need to make a change.
