The FCNL General Committee, or board of governors, determines the legislative policy and priorities of the organization. It produces two documents that guide FCNL staff members in determining which issues to work on and which legislation to support.
The
FCNL Policy Statement sets forth FCNL's broad objectives for public policy. The
Policy Statement covers a range of issues, organized by the four "we seeks" in FCNL's mission statement. The General Committee revises and updates the Policy Statement on an ongoing basis. It approved the current statement in November 2003.
The
Statement of Legislative
Priorities identifies a more limited set of issues, drawn from the Policy Statement, on which staff is expected to focus time, energy,
and resources. The General Committee sets new priorities every two years, as a new Congress takes office. The current
priorities are for the 111th Congress (approved November 15, 2008).
Both
the policy and
priorities statements are prepared through
consultative processes that involve Friends across the United
