The international community has numerous non-military tools at its disposal to prevent, mitigate, and resolve deadly conflict. Because each conflict is different, the strategies and tools should be varied to address different situations and different phases of conflict. This toolkit provides some of the options governments, international organizations, and peacemakers can utilize to:
The list is not meant to be exhaustive. It is an attempt to categorize the information received through the years from governments, academics, and peacebuilding practioners. As new information comes to our attention we will update and reclassify the list accordingly. We hope this will be used by advocates and policymakers in their work to craft a foreign policy that utilizes a broad range of tools to build a lasting and just peace.
