Dear Senator,
Progress toward the energy-efficient, renewable, climate-safe energy future is being put on hold now due to expiring tax incentives. Tens of thousands of good-paying jobs and tens of billions of dollars in new investment hang in the balance. The Senate needs to act now to help move the slowing U.S. economy forward toward a clean energy future and a safer climate.
We at the Friends Committee on National Legislation commend Senators Cantwell and Ensign for their leadership introducing this sensible, bipartisan legislation. While we believe that, for these essential new, industries to develop and flourish, Congress should ultimately enact incentives that will last for a much longer term, it is even more important that an incentives package such as this be enacted quickly this year. The sagging economy needs the stimulus, and, until Congress enacts comprehensive legislation to tax or cap greenhouse gas emissions, it needs to continue policies such as these to continue shifting the economy toward a more energy efficient, renewable, climate-safe energy foundation.
We urge your support of this bill.
Sincerely,
Edward (Ned) W. Stowe III
Senior Legislative Secretary
