Knoxville Friends Meeting
Minute on "International Day of Peace" Observance
West
Knoxville Friends Meeting supports the "International Day of
Peace" declared by the United Nations for September 21st of
each year. Consistent with the Quaker peace testimony, we will
join all those in the world who that day observe a cease fire
and nonviolence throughout the world. We urge all governments
and all people to join in that observance.
We
invite the people of our community to observe that day individually
and through their houses of worship toward the end of promoting
enduring peace and non-violent resolution of all disputes in
recognition of the fact that there is that of God in each of
us. We will have a Meeting for Worship with attention to peace
from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at the Meetinghouse.
The community is invited to participate in our service.
The
Clerk will distribute this minute as letters to the editors
of newspapers in Knox County and adjacent counties. Others in
the Meeting are asked to assist with distributing it as a press
release to the broadcast media.
