Dear Letter Writing Coordinator,
President Barack Obama will receive Nobel Peace Prize on December 10 in Oslo, Norway! We celebrate the awarding of this peace prize for the president’s work on nuclear disarmament and also continue to express our concern about the eight years the United States has been at war in Afghanistan. As I write this letter, the administration is deciding whether to send more troops to Afghanistan or develop a new policy based on diplomacy, development, and international cooperation. You can help, by reminding the president and your senators that War Is Not the Answer in Afghanistan. Urge them to:
- Halt offensive operations against Taliban strongholds and concentrate on improving living standards in areas not under Taliban control.
- Engage Afghanistan's neighbors - including Russia, China and Iran - in the stabilization process.
- Support negotiation and reconciliation among all Afghan groups, including the Taliban.
- Start the withdrawal of U.S. troops and articulate a policy leading to withdrawing all U.S. troops.
- Greatly expand development aid and diplomatic efforts to achieve regional security.
With your help, we can encourage the Senate and President Obama to de-escalate the war and promote a peaceful resolution to this conflict.
As always, please encourage letter-writers to include personal details and to speak from their own convictions and experiences. Below, you'll find two sample letters with FCNL’s message in five points, but please feel free to write about the topics you are most comfortable with. Thank you.
In peace,

Jim Cason, Associate Executive Secretary for Campaigns
