Tell Candidates for Congress: Talk to Iran
Printer-friendly version of this alert
We at FCNL are worried about the possibility of a war with Iran.
At the White House, in Congress, and out on the campaign trail, most people are saying the United States needs to keep the option of military action against Iran on the table. The United States needs to talk to Iran, not start a new war.
Here on Capitol Hill, we at FCNL are working hard to persuade Congress to speak out against the talk of war with Iran. We're holding briefings and organizing a call-in day next week.
But the real work to pave the way to peace must take place out where you are around the country, especially in this election season.
Most candidates running for seats in the House of Representatives have not spoken out publicly in favor of negotiations with Iran. Candidates need to hear now that voters in their districts agree with the majority of people in the United States that supports talks with Iran. Five former Secretaries of State - Colin Powell, Henry Kissinger, James Baker III, Warren Christopher and Madeline Albright - have also called on the U.S. government to expand dialogue with Iran.
Take action: Contact the candidates for Congress in your district.
Please take a few minutes to ask the major candidates running for Congress in your district to commit to work for direct, unconditional, and comprehensive talks between the United States and Iran. You can use our website to email or print out a letter to send to the candidates.
We at FCNL see this as the first of several steps we can take together to make peace an election-year issue. What all of us do in the next few months could determine whether or not the next Congress takes real steps to prevent a war with Iran.
