Send Your Best to Washington. Vote - FCNL
Next Tuesday you have an opportunity to help translate FCNL’s legislative priorities into policy. You work with FCNL all year long to influence U.S. policy, but once every two years you have a chance to send to Washington the candidates that you judge to be the best on the ballot. FCNL will work with every member of Congress to help express your views and convictions on the moral and spiritual values that should undergird government and law. Please vote, and encourage friends, neighbors, and colleagues to vote on Tuesday, November 7.
The percentage of eligible voters who take part in mid-term congressional elections is still hovering at around 50 percent. Even among Friends and other like-minded folk many do not find time to go to the polls. Please ask everyone you know if they plan to vote, and encourage them to do so. FCNL has prepared a series of resources to help you send the best people to Washington.
Know Your Incumbents
FCNL has prepared a voting record for the 109th Congress to help you see how your senators and representative voted on key issues in our policy agenda. Use this record to find important votes on Iraq, banning torture, protecting the environment, and controlling nuclear weapons, among other issues.
Join the Public Conversation
This last weekend before the elections is a critical time to remind others in your community that War is Not the Answer. Campaign signs have peppered yards and billboards for weeks. Now is the time to add a new message to the dialogue. Put up some War is Not the Answer signs and bumper stickers in your yard or on your car to contribute to your neighborhood's public conversation.
Question all the Candidates
Members of Congress will return to Washington right after the elections for a lame duck session of Congress. The questions you ask and the issues you raise now will have an important impact on the actions Congress takes after the election. Read FCNL’s Questions for the Candidates. Ask questions that reach past the rhetoric to get at the candidates’ perspectives on issues. Most importantly, ask how they will bring those perspectives to bear on legislation if they get the chance to represent you and your concerns in Washington.
