Re: Ideas for Finding the Money to Come to Annual Meeting
We’re delighted you have decided to come to FCNL’s annual meeting this November. This gathering will provide all of us with a great opportunity to talk about our agenda for 2009, hear from congressional staff about how we can effectively communicate with Congress, and share ideas about how to build a more powerful network around the country.
We’re aware that both traveling to and meeting in Washington, DC can be costly. The registration fee you are charged only covers about one-half of the expenses FCNL incurs for food and meeting space. Your staff works hard to limit costs.
Some people have given us ideas about where they turn for support to defray the registration, travel, and hotel costs, and I’d like to share two of those with you:
- Some yearly meetings have a budget item to cover all or some of the expenses of their representatives. Other Friends approach their monthly meeting or church to request support for their participation. A follow-up, firsthand report on the annual meeting can be a great benefit to the local church or meeting.
- If your church or meeting does not have a budget item for this, perhaps there are members and attenders who are willing to contribute to a travel fund. Do you have Friends in your meeting or church who cannot come to Washington but would be honored to enable your presence in representing others?
Also, please consider inviting a young adult to attend and helping that person seek financial support. FCNL staff raise a scholarship fund to support young adults—we look to these folks as our future.
