Devin Helfrich
Legislative Advocate, Environment
In August 2008, Devin took the lead of FCNL's Environmental Program, bringing with him experience in the private sector, legislative training, and a Quaker background.
Devin began work at FCNL in September, 2006 as a Legislative Program Assistant for the Nuclear Disarmament program. Prior to coming to Washington, Devin was trained as a geologist and worked for an environmental consulting firm. Based out of Minneapolis, MN, Devin was responsible for overseeing the cleanup of polluted sites across the Upper Midwest. Working as a Staff Geologist, Devin investigated environmentally impacted sites and developed plans to clean up local pollution and achieve compliance with state and federal regulations. Prior to environmental consulting, Devin worked for the Bureau of Land Management in Idaho analyzing digital spatial data.
Devin graduated in 2001 from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, where he majored in Geology. He was born and raised in Minneapolis, where he attended the Minneapolis Friends Meeting and participated in several Quaker service programs over the years.
With his free time, Devin enjoys being outside; a good cathartic camping trip or long hike clears his head and helps him stay focused on what’s meaningful. Devin has traveled to Brazil, Cuba, Spain, and much of Europe for both education and service.
